Tanya Moore, Ph.D. Founder

Hi, I’m Tanya.

I grew up in Berkeley, shaped early by a deep belief that everyone deserves a chance at a meaningful life, regardless of their background, zip code, or identity. That value of social justice has been the thread running through everything I've done since.

My background

My path into this work started with math. I studied mathematics at Spelman College, earned a Master's in Mathematical Sciences from Johns Hopkins, and went on to complete a doctorate in Biostatistics at UC Berkeley. A mathematical orientation, it turns out, is a great tool for making sense of the world - I'm always looking for patterns, connections, and relationships.

From there, I spent years working across public health, education policy, and workforce development, designing community programs, writing grants, leading evaluations, managing teams and facilitating multi-agency collaboratives. I've sat at the table where the decisions get made, and I understand firsthand how much this work matters and how hard it is to do well.

Why I started Intersecting Lines

What I came to believe, from all of that experience, is that research and evaluation are most powerful when they're in service of something, when they help organizations communicate their impact, sharpen their focus, and ultimately drive real change. I also believe deeply in designing with communities, not just for them. Blending rigorous tools with community insights and lived perspectives isn't just good practice,  it's the difference between work that creates lasting positive change and work that never quite reaches its potential.

Intersecting Lines was born from wanting to bring all of these threads together, the math, the field experience, the values, to support the initiatives, organizations, and leaders who are committed to making our communities a better place for everyone.

I work with an experienced network of consultants who share these values and bring both head and heart to this work. We don't separate rigor from care and collaboration.

What else lights me up…

I'm passionate about supporting women in mathematics. I'm a co-founder of the Infinite Possibilities Conference (IPC), a national conference created to support, promote, and encourage underrepresented minority women in math. I find these women's stories genuinely inspiring and I've had the joy of co-writing some of them, including profiles of Dorothy Hoover,Dr. Gladys B. WestDr. Gloria Gilmer, published in the Notices of the American Mathematical Society.

A few things I've been honored by along the way:

  • Inducted into the Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame, STEM Category

  • Featured in Essence, Black Enterprise, and O, The Oprah Magazine

  • Named STEM Woman of the Year by California State Assemblymember Nancy Skinner
